Veterans Day

Veterans Day 2015

In the United States we set aside November 11th to honor our Veterans. Smart Horizons is proud to honor those who have ‘stood the watch’ for us through our many partnerships.

One of those partnerships is the non-profit International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO). We are especially proud of this partnership. IFPO has a long and proud history of advocating for the professional development of security professionals. After their service, many veterans join the security profession.

The International Foundation for Protection Officers invite Veterans from all services and countries, as well as those who currently serve, to request a special profile that will provide access to a Veteran Appreciation code and discount to most Foundation purchases, including online Certified Protection Officer training and a full range of professional development offerings for security professionals. More information regarding the Veteran Appreciation program is available on the Foundation web site.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month

Bullying

Bullying is a serious issue that directly impacts thousands of children every day. It is an intentional behavior that hurts someone either physically or emotionally and has significant short- and long-term effects that can negatively impact a child’s education, health, and safety.

Security Officers can observe inappropriate behavior while on post. Teaching children how to relate with their peers can help children build the social skills to interact in positive ways and to develop resilience against bullying.

The key to preventing bullying is to be prepared to deal effectively with bullying before, during, and after it occurs.

Florida Association for the Education of Young Children offers courses that will help equip you with the skills to intervene consistently and appropriately. View their course, Bullying: Identification and Prevention and help establish a supportive and safe climate where all children are accepted and know how to respond when bullying happens.
